International Abilympics

Coined from from the phrase Olympics of Abilities, Abilympics is a skill competition for the Persons with Disability (PWD). The 1st International Abilympics (IA) was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1981 to commemorate the United Nation’s International Year of Disabled Persons. Subsequently, it was held on a regular basis in every 4 years beginning 1985.

Malaysian Community Rehabilitation (MCR) President, Datin Paduka Khatijah Sulieman was leading 16 participants to the 9th International Abilympics in Bordeaux, France from 23rd – 26th March 2016. The participants brought home one (1) Gold for Studio Photography, one (1) Silver for Painting and two
(2) Bronze for Creating Website and Silk Painting.

Allianz Malaysia is the main sponsor for the Malaysian participants for National Abilympics 2016. Other sponsors include Malaysian Institute of Baking, Kolej Komuniti Selayang, So-Sen Floral Centre Shd Bhd, CIAST, Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (Skills Malaysia), Kementerian Sumber Manusia, Pusat Latihan Perindustrian dan Pemulihan Bangi, University of MARA Technology and University Malaya.
